The Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia held its annual grant awards celebration this week -- and gave a record $425,000 to Gwinnett-area nonprofits.
The total includes a $200,000 grant given to the capital fund for the Aurora Theatre, which will anchor a $31 million arts complex in downtown Lawrenceville.
“Our communities have so many incredible nonprofits doing life-changing, generation-changing work each and every day,” foundation CEO Randy Redner said in a news release. “To be able to support some of them in the work they do, to help them impact even more people and change even more lives -- that is part of our mission at the Community Foundation.”
The grant total is a record, but just a portion of the $5 million the foundation estimates it will contribute to area nonprofits this year. The awards were covered by the foundation's Good2Give Community Fund, which anyone can donate to by visiting cfneg.org.
